Summer Training Schedule

For updates about the summer, please check out the slideshow presentation from our kickoff meeting. We will meet daily in City Park in the field north of the Joseph Addison Thatcher Memorial Fountain at 8:00a.m. for our training sessions, unless otherwise communicated through the Spond App (join code: WEDHV).

Please Note: Recovery days are encouraged and expected. Our program builds volume over the summer, and is set by fitness and experience. The levels you should be paying attention to are as follows:

Beginner: Any incoming 9th graders, 10th-12th grade runners who are new to the team, or anyone coming back from an injury.

Intermediate: Any 10th-12th graders who have been on the team previously, or upper level runners returning from their time off.

Upper: Any 11th-12th graders who have been on the team previously and have returned from their time off.

The page title is 'Sports Recap' from East High School, and the headline reads 'A Beginners Guide to Running: The Highs and Lows' by Nadia Debick. The right side of the page contains a large photo of a crowd of runners participating in a race on a sunny day.

Capped off an amazing career in style!

Coach Kohuth finished his 22nd and final year as Head East Cross Country Coach by toeing the line at Toka Sticks, running a sub-22 to set the tone for the teams competing at NXR.

Returned the Boys Team to State!

After being seeded 5th for the second year in a row going into Regionals, the boys once again pulled the upset and got themselves back Norris Penrose with a senior heavy team.

Finished Top-10 at State again!

With the most talented team in East history, even without two of our top-7, the girls once again proved why they are one of the best teams in the state and country.

Rewrote the East XC History books!

Five girls and two boys made their way into the all time top-10 in program history, while recording some of the best finishes in program history at some of our major invitationals.

Reasons to be excited for 2026

In 2026 we will have a massive senior class that has a lot of experience in this program, who are committed to making this a fun and inclusive team, on and off the field. They have lots of ideas of how to bring together athletes of all ability levels to make this the best year of East XC yet! No matter how fast you are, there’s a place for you on this team - come run with the Angels!

We will have a new regional qualifier next year. While it will mean that we aren’t traveling anywhere near Buc-ee’s, we will be staying a bit closer to home as we have been moved to Region 1, along with schools from Denver, Cherry Creek, and Aurora Public Schools.

Opportunities are available for to compete at home, as we bring back the Angel Invite, in our own City Park. There are also out-of-state opportunities. After some uncertainty about its future, it has been announced that the Rim Rock Classic in Lawrence, Kansas, will once again be held in September. Last year we had a lot of breakout performances from young athletes. Then in November, any athlete wishing to do so can sign up to compete at Nike Cross Regionals in Mesa, Arizona.

Our girls return most of our top runners from a team that qualified for the Championship Race at NXR last year. Three of these runners find themselves in the top-10 all-time, and a few more find themselves in the top-15, so we should have another chance to compete at State and beyond.

Our boys had an impressive crop of young runners that emerged from the freshmen and sophomore classes last year. With a year of growth and training, they are poised to lead our varsity, after many of our top runners graduated. But this also means that there may some of our incoming runners who might also crack our top-7.

Changes are coming to the Coaching Staff. After 11 years as an assistant coach, Coach Fehrman, has assumed the Head Coaching job. Coaches Scudamore and Hunt will return as assistants, and Coach Kohuth will be back as a volunteer coach. There will also be a few new faces added to the mix as well, who will be announced as they are hired.

  • "Some people think cross country is about the legs. But it's really arms, arms, arms!"

    Coach Kohuth

  • "I couldn't have made varsity on this team. They are that good."

    Coach Scudamore

  • "Little known fact. The fast and the furious franchise got their name by watching me coach on Fridays. You can check me on that."

    Coach Fehrman
