HIGH JUMP / LONG SPRINTS

Coach Simons is entering his third-year coaching, previously coaching at Bear Creek and Eaglecrest high schools, and is excited to be joining the East Angels! Born in Oregon and raised in Tracktown USA, he has competed on the track since 5th grade and has a deep love for every aspect of the sport. Moving to Colorado after his sophomore year of high school, he expanded his repertoire from being a jump specialist and competed in almost every event for The Vanguard School in Colorado Springs. In his senior year, he and his team came together across the relays to become the 2014 Colorado 2A State Champions in the 4x200 and Runners-Up in the 4x400 and 4x800. He placed 5th in the open 200, running the time that would get him a roster spot in college. Coach Simons also excelled at high jump with a PR of 6’4”.

He continued his Track career at UCCS as a long sprinter. He had a break-out year in 2018, becoming an NCAA Division II All-American in the 4x100 and competing at the 2018 DII NCAA Nationals in the 400, 200, and 4x100. A multi-time RMAC Champion across the 400, 4x400, and 4x100, he enjoyed an exciting collegiate career in one of the most competitive DII Conferences in the country. When he graduated from UCCS, Coach Simons held the Indoor and Outdoor school records in the 400 and 4x400, and the Outdoor 4x100 and 200. He graduated from UCCS with a Bachelor’s degree in Communications and a minor in Sports Health and Wellness and is currently working on a master’s degree in education from Western Colorado University. Coach Simons is excited to pass his knowledge to young athletes as they enjoy the sport he has loved for so long!
