About Coach Scudamore

Coach Dave Scudamore is a lifelong runner, educator, and mentor. As an athlete he was a three time All-American in high school, twice in cross country and once in track, where he ranked fourth nationally in the 3000m, 3200m, and two mile. At Stanford he earned NCAA Division I All-American honors in the 10,000m in 1992 and 1993, and he went on to represent the United States as a four time national team member, winning the 1997 USA Marathon Championship, placing 13th at the 1997 World Championships, and finishing sixth at the 2000 U.S. Olympic Trials Marathon.

He has been part of the Denver East running community since 2014, starting as a parent volunteer before moving into assistant roles in cross country and track. A Stanford graduate in History and Biology, he earned his MD from UC Davis, trained in pediatrics at Children's Hospital Oakland, and now serves at the University of Colorado School of Medicine as an Associate Professor and a leader in Pediatric Hospital Medicine.

He is married to Dr. Jennifer Reich and is the proud father of three East graduates who have gone on to run in college. For Coach Scudamore, helping young people discover the joy of running and learn about themselves along the way is his true happy place.
