Coach Steve Pinney has worked with the high jumpers at Denver East since 2024 and is helping to launch the school's new pole vault program this year. He is a USATF Level 2 jumps coach and an active, nationally ranked Masters track and field athlete.

In high school he high jumped 6 feet 5 inches and pole vaulted, and at Harvard he vaulted 15 feet and earned All New England honors as a senior. Dr. Pinney is also an orthopedic surgeon, a volunteer faculty member at the University of Colorado, and the founder of OrthoEducation, a non profit dedicated to patient education.
